Frequently asked questions
about www.avpress.com
Can I place an ad or a link on your site?We offer several ways for you to place your ad on our site.
1) Take out a classified ad in the printed edition, The Antelope Valley Press. Classified "liner" ads may be posted to the web site on the day of publication at the advertiser's discretion for a nominal charge.
2) Buy a listing in the Web Directory which appears on the On The Net web page in every Wednesday's Valley Press. That directory is posted to avpress.com and the links are made clickable. There is information on the
On The Net index page about how to list your own link in the directory.
4) Place a banner ad. Ask your advertising representative about placing a banner ad on our key pages.
We also have promotional banner ads for different sections of the site, classifieds, etc.
Where are the movie listings and showtimes? We do not post movie listings and showtimes. They are, however, available in the print edition on a daily basis with new movie listings appearing in the Showcase section of the Friday edition.
Why isn't the news ready at 6 a.m. like the classified ads?We produce the classified ads the evening prior to their publication. We can translate and get the classified section uploaded the previous day and have them "kick in" at 6 a.m. the day of publication. (More info on classifieds.
The classifieds themselves.)
The news, on the other hand, isn't wrapped up until the middle of the night. The uploading of the news content is done by 9 a.m. every morning.
Is there an archive of old stories and photos? We have only the current publication's classifieds on line. We have
one week's worth of home pages and their associated stories and pictures on the site.
We do not have an electronic photo archive. It is possible, however, to
order reprints of recent pictures.
The main public libraries in Lancaster and Palmdale keep microfilm of the Antelope Valley Press and its predecessor, the Palmdale Post, going back to the Teens and of the Ledger-Gazette back even further.
Can I search the classified ads?The classifieds and several other areas of the site are searchable. Our web site host, Quantum Networking Systems, cleared the way for us with the installation of the Excite software. The searches bring up entire classifications as well as individual ads. Look in the index bar under "Searches" for those parts of the site that are indexed.
Why isn't (fill in the blank) on the site?Sports (especially high school sports), weather, Valley Life, Business, Showcase, TV listings, Food, special sections (including AV Best and Welcome), letters to the editor, syndicated columnists. We've been asked about them all.
We do not plan to provide the entire contents of the print edition on line. We believe the two products should complement each other. Presently, we choose 6 to 10 stories from all sections when we make up the home page, but our choice is not always your choice. That's why the paper product works so well. The newspaper gives you a wide choice from which to select what you wish to read. We do include routinely the standing features
Reunions from Valley Life, and
See It Here from Showcase. Quite often, we include the cover story from Showcase.
How can I send e-mail to a member of the Valley Press staff?Editorial (newsroom) staff members with e-mail addresses are listed here.
