Camera-ready specifications

Camera-ready materials are veloxes, negatives, or electronic ad submision. Halftones should be submitted at 100 line screen. Negatives must be right reading, emulsion down.

Electronic ad submission

The following electronic ad printing services are available through the Antelope Valley Press. In order to reproduce ads which consistently meet customer expectations within the deadline constraints of a daily newspaper, all material must be submitted in accordance to the following specifications. Please direct any additional questions to the Advertising Operations Department at 661-267-4259 or 661-267-4124.

Media transport

  • CD-ROM
  • ZIP disks
  • E-mail address: adops@avpress.com.
  • FTP delivery is available. Contact Ad Operations at the number above for details.

Ask your account executive for a disk envelope. All compressed files should be submitted in a SEA (self-extracting) format only. See "Submission Guidlines" below.

Macintosh file formats supported

  • QuarkXPress
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Adobe Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format)

Live images incorporated into the ad (artwork, scans, screen and printer fonts) should be grouped with the final document in a separate folder or separate disk for each specific ad. Check for software version compatibility before submission. PDF files are preferred, as no fonts or linked artwork needs to be sent along. See "Submission Guidlines" below.

Submission guidelines

  • All adwork submitted must be in final form. The Advertising Operations Department will not make any changes to electronic files. If troubleshooting is necessary, production charges will be asserted in accordance with the established production rate of $80 per hour with a $50 minimum. Charges will be discussed with the customer prior to revision work.
  • Supply a laser proof. The proof should be submitted at 100% of size (tiled and taped together in final form, if necessary).
  • Include all linked graphics. Do not rename artwork after importation into the final document; links will not update.
  • When possible, color ads should be supported with color proofs to provide insight into color breaks and potential trapping issues. If color proofs are not possible, a color separated proof and a composite must be supplied.
  • Only Adobe Type 1 type faces are supported. Screen and printer fonts are to be included with ad work in a "fonts" folder. True Type fonts are not accepted.
  • Ads submitted by modem or disk must be received 24 hours prior to camera-ready deadline.
  • All process color work should be converted to CMYK EPS format (no RGB or Pantone). For spot color ads, the spot color should be set to process magenta.
  • Photo resolution minimum is 150 pixels per inch, and the maximum is 200 pixels per inch. All photos and graphics should be in EPS or TIFF formats.
  • PDF format is preferred. All fonts must be embedded. Our preferred Acrobat Distiller options will be e-mailed on request. Once you receive the options file, place it in Distiller's "Settings" folder. Then select the Valley Press options in the job options bar in the main window of the application.
