FORBES, Joan Mary
FORBES, Joan Born in Heavitree, Exeter, England on March 10, 1925, died December 4, 2013, Lancaster, California. Loving wife, mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother.Proceeded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry G. Forbes, sister Ruth Parsons of Exeter, England and her daughters, Cecile and Diane. Eldest of four children and raised in Heavitree, Exeter, England. As a young woman, Joan was a member of the W.A.A.F. in the Royal Air force in London, England. During World War II she met her husband, Harry G. Forbes, who was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in London, England. They were married at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Heavitree on July 4, 1945. After World War II, Joan sailed across the ocean on the Queen Mary and was re-united with her husband in Queens, New York. There, the first two of eight children were born. In 1950, they relocated to the city of Torrance in Southern California and added four more children to their family. In 1960 Joan, Harry and their family moved to the Antelope Valley where the last two of her eight children were born. There, Harry finished his career with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. In 1986, Joan and Harry retired in Sun City, Arizona, and lived there 20 years where she continued to enjoy life as an avid member of the Caledonian Society and attended the Scottish Highland Games yearly. Due to illness Joan and Harry moved back to the Antelope Valley in 2008 where she and her husband were cared for by her loving family. She leaved behind her sister, Daphne Nelson of Lancaster, Calif., her brother Keith Watts of Exeter, England; her daughter Angele Adams, of Palm Coast, Fla.; daughter, Heather Ang (David) of Aptos, Calif.; son, Christopher Forbes, of Everett, Wash.; daughter Jacqueline Forbes, of Beaverton, Ore.; daughter, Jennifer Ramirez (Leonard), of Lancaster, Calif.; son, Gregory Forbes (Renee), of Vallejo, Calif. She also leaves behind numerous family members and friends in the United States, England and Canada. We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Casa Amore West, in Quartz Hill and Hoffman Hospice who aided in comfort her final days. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her children were her love and life. Her home and heart were always an open door to everyone. Her generous and caring spirit was always present. She had a profound sense of humor and was very intuitive, always ready with a kind word and sound advice. She will be remembered, missed and loved by all who knew her. Rosary and viewing will be at Halley-Olsen-Murphy, 44831 N. Cedar Ave., Lancaster, CA 93534 from 4pm to 8 pm, Thursday, December 19, 2013. Funeral mass will be at Blessed Junipero Serra Parish, 42121 N. 60th West, Lancaster, CA 93536 at 11 am, Friday, December 20, 2013. wwwhomlancaster.com
