BADLAND, Lillian
BADLAND, Lillian Janette 'Jan' 89 passed away peacefully in her home in Morro Bay, Friday October 4th, with her husband of 64 years, Bill, at her side. Jan was born in Pontiac, Michigan and received her degree in psychology at near-by Olivet College. Never a fan of icy winters or summer lightening storms, she left Michigan to accept a job as a grade school instructor at Avalon Schools on beautiful Catalina Island. This is where she met Bill, the love of her life, who drove tour busses up to the old Bird Park on the island. After five years in Avalon the couple moved to the Mojave Dessert in 1952 to start a family and share life together as teachers for the Lancaster School District. 'Mrs. Badland' first taught at the old Cedar Avenue school (now LSD main office), moved on to Monte Vista Elementary School and finally settled into her thirty-year position teaching 2nd grade at Sunnydale Elementary. After 34 years in the Antelope Valley, Jan and Bill relocated to Morro Bay on California's Central Coast and built their dream home overlooking the beautiful Pacific. Jan took great pleasure in each and every day of her retirement life - especially doting over some very lucky and spoiled cats who had the good fortune of finding their way to her doorstep. 'It's a beautiful day in Morro Bay' was her favorite and frequent quote. Jan was a gracious, loving, strong and devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she will be sorely missed. Jan is survived by her husband, Bill, her son Charles and his wife Patricia, and one greatly loved grandson Beckett.
