LAWRENCE, Floyd Harlow
LAWRENCE, Floyd Harlow Born July 23, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa to Floyd Lovel Lawrence and Mabel Evelyn Harlow. Passed away May 9, 2013, in Lancaster. He married Viola Wilson June 15, 1954, in Lawton, Okla., while stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. Floyd was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. After Basic Training at Fort Riley, Kan., he was sent to Helicopter Mechanic Training at Fort Sill. After discharge from U.S. Army, he enrolled in Northrop Institute of Technology, utilizing the GI Bill. He graduated with BS Degree in Aircraft Engineering and Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, as well as acquiring his Private Pilot licence. He had a 44 year career starting with the U.S. Army, Los Angeles Airways Helicopter Service, Kaman Aircraft, General Dynamics, Rocketdyne, Airsearch and Federal Avia- tion Agency where he retired in 1995, with 22 years service. Notable work assignments included: installation Atlas ICBMs Altus AFB in 1962; Apollo F1 Rocket Engines at Edwards Rocket Site: Airesearch- Tech on SR 71 at Edwards AFB, Beale AFB and Kadena AFB in Okinawa. Floyd was an avid hunter, he loved spending time at the cabin at St. George, Utah. His passion after retirement was traveling and Genealogy. He is a Mayflower descendent and Sons of American Revolution member. He has passed down his Lawrence Family research to son David Lawrence who will continue the work. He is survived by his wife Viola, children David Lawrence (Paula) of Temecula, Calif., Teri Tiffany of Upland, Calif., Patricia Dunlop (Steve) of Long Beach, Calif., and Sharon Westmoreland (Bryan) of Phoenix, Ariz., grandchildren; Timothy Tiffany, Jonathan Lawrence, Joshua Lawrence, Dylan Haskell, Mitchel Haskell, Tyler Dunlop and Holly Dunlop. Service will be held at a later date in Brooks, Iowa, where Floyds parents are interred. The Lawrence family will forever be grateful to Hoffman Hospice staff in guiding us through this journey.
