BALLENGER, Leland Osgood
BALLENGER, Leland Osgood Was born on June 25, 1934, and died on May 2, 2013, surrounded by loving family members as he entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ. Lee was born and raised in Southern California. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps, just as the Korean War was heating up. Following his discharge from the Marines he began his police career and retired after 35 years with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. After retirement, Lee recalled his service in Korea, and after extensive research, wrote two fine books about the Marines in Korea published by Brassey's. He is survived by his loving wife, Lennie, three daughters, seven grandchildren and two siblings. He will be greatly missed by all who love him. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, at Wayside Chapel in Rosamond, 2584 Felsite Avenue, followed by military honors at 1:15 p.m., at the Bakersfield Military Cemetery, 30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin.
