DICKINSON, Alicia
DICKINSON, Alicia April 2, 1943~March 30, 2013 Born and raised in Manchester, England, Alicia spent several years in Australia before moving to the United States with her husband Walter and daughter Nadia. Alicia often tolda humorous story about moving toLancaster andhow shocked she was when she saw Sierra Highway for the first time. It didn't take long for her to appreciate the beauty of the desert. She loved her community and was grateful for everything she was able to accomplish here. She was a naturalized citizen who never failed to recognize what an honor that was. She was a stock broker and commodity trader at a time whenvery few women worked in the investment industry. In July of 2000, a malignant brain tumor forced her to retire from a highly successful career as a Senior Vice President with Morgan Stanley. With typical determination, she far outlived the odds but eventually succumbed to the long term side effects of treatment. She enjoyed reading and gardening andhad a special talent for growing exquisite roses. She was generous and kind andloved animals of all species. Positive to the end, she had hopedto recover enough to fulfill hergoal of volunteering at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. Alicia was a remarkable woman and she will be deeply missed. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service. Donations in her memory can be sent to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Cnyn Rd, Kanab Utah 84741 or Halfway to Home , P.O. Box 512, Rosamond, CA 93560.
