KORDES, Phyllis B.
KORDES, Phyllis B. 1925 - 2012 Phyllis B. Kordes, 84, passed away following a short illness at San Joaquin Community Hospital. Born in Houston, Missouri, Phyllis lived most of her childhood in South Bend, Indiana, and as a young woman met her true love and husband of 65 years, Eldon 'Don' E. Kordes. 1960, provided the opportunity for Phyllis and Don to move their family, Kenneth Kordes (son), Janice Kordes (daughter), and Richard Guy Kordes (deceased), from Virginia to Lancaster, California. Being an avid life learner, Phyllis proceeded to obtain an education degree from California State University Northridge while raising her children. Lancaster School District benefitted from Phyllis's 'creative and results oriented' teaching for 20 years. Phyllis's retirement goal was to 'get out of the wind' and ride her horses! Next to horses, Phyllis believed education to be the means to open one's life to great opportunities. She walked her talk as a long time member of the PEO sorority, the teacher's association and the American Association of University Women. Her frequent bridge games with her dear friends kept her sharp mind! Phyllis cherished her husband, children and friends. So many will miss her deeply, particularly her horse Tee! May Phyllis's spirit ride along the Bear Valley trails with you as well as wherever you may be. A memorial service is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the Bear Valley Springs Oak Tree Country Club. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Phyllis's memory to: American Association of University Women, 111 Sixteenth Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20036; AAUW.org/give; or Tehachapi Humane Society, 21600 Golden Star Blvd. #3, Tehachapi, CA 93561, Tehachapihumane.org. Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. For condolences please visit: www.woodmortuary.net
