SMITH, Karl L.
SMITH, Karl L. Born June 16, 1940, in Stroudsburg, Pa. Passed away August 25, 2012, at home in Quartz Hill, Calif. He is survived by his wife Patsy, son Lloyd (Shannon) Smith, daughters Angela Stever, Teresa (Bob) Koch, one brother and one sister. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren surviving to remember a special grandpa. Karl was a former real estate agent, manager of a real estate office, IRS agent, Los Angeles City Fireman, U.S. Forest Service Firefighter, business owner and teacher for many years. He worked on the Los Padres, Sierra, and Angeles National Forests as a fire- fighter. He was a volunteer fireman in the states of Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Texas. He started the YACC fire training program in Saugus, Calif., taught the ROP program in Saugus, Calif., and Palmdale, Calif. He taught Fire Technology at University of Illinois, LA Valley College, Harbor College, Cal State LA University, Bakersfield College and Antelope Valley College. Karl served in the Army and belonged to many organizations. His activities kept him busy at all times. He loved racing motorcycles and was a member of the Rovers MC. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycling, climbing Mount Whitney, running clubs, and being out on the trails with the fire crews. He was most proud of his family, and all the men and women across the nation that he inspired to be fire fighters. There will be no funeral service, but the family will be holding a celebration of life gathering in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to: Rescue 3 Inc. 5040 N.
