PHIPPS, Laurel Bud
PHIPPS, Laurel "Bud" Born in Los Angeles and grew up in Van Nuys, California. He graduated from Van Nuys High School where he was a proud member of the ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1941, becoming a pilot flying a P-51 Mustang in 53 combat missions. He was honorably discharged in the rank of Captain. He married Clydean Stolle in 1947, and raised 5 children. He worked for the L.A. Dept. of Water & Power, starting as a laborer and retired after 30 years as Field Superintendent in 1977. He moved to Lancaster, California in 1993, with his sweetheart, Ann Braden. He was happily retired for over 34 years, enjoying gardening and woodworking but his main passion was ballroom dancing. Bud was preceded in death by son, Daniel. He is survived by sons, David and Ronald and daughters, Donna and Laurel, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was a wonderful man with a happy smile and willing attitude. He will be missed by all who knew him. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary , 11160 Stranwood Ave Mission Hills, CA 91345. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.at Blessed Junipero Serra, 42121 60th St. West Lancaster, CA 93536.
