GEHRING, RICHARD E.
GEHRING, Richard E. Returned to his Heavenly Father on Jan. 27, 2011. Dad was born July 3, 1927, to parents of Edward and Mercedes Gehring in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Nazareth Lutheran Grammer School and Lindbloom High School. Dad enlisted in the Army Air Force in November of 1944, and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent in November 1948. He met Norma his beautiful wife who he is survived by, in February 1949, in Los Angeles, Calif. They married in October 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Josephs Church. They moved to Chicago, Illinois and lived there until 1955. There they had their first 3 sons whom Dad is survived by: Ed (Cheryl), Bill (Jo), Kim (Shirley) all of Lancaster, Calif. They came out west in 1955, for work in the aircraft industry. They had a daughter and 1 more son whom Dad is also survived by: Barb of Lancaster, Calif., and Don (Connie) of Oakdale, Calif. Dad lived in Lancaster until his death, in the house he and mom built from the ground up for 55 years. He was a mechanic in the aircraft industry for 26 years. Dad loved building model airplanes, working on Braille and telling jokes. Oh how he could tell jokes!! His greatest accomplishments are his 5 children. Dad was preceded in death by his dad and mom Edward and Mercedes Gehring, and by his brother, Don Gehring. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Gehring of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, 14 grandchildren, and 14 (and 1 on the way) great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., with Services beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, 856 West Newgrove, Lancaster. Interment is at Joshua Memorial Park, following the service and a light reception back at Grace following the interment. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dads memory to the Lutheran Braille Work Center #143, P.O. Box 5000, Yucaipa, CA 92399. We Love you Dad!
