BORT, James 'Jim' Born September 1, 1933, in Whitehall, Illinois. Passed away December 27, 2010, in Arroyo Grande, Calif. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He served in the U.S. Army out of Fort Ord. Jim lived in the Antelope Valley for 43 years, was the Ag teacher at AV High School from 1959 to 1981. Was Agricultural Land Developer for LA City Department of Airports at Palmdale from 1981 to 2002. In 1951, he received the Chapter Star Farmer, 1954, Outstanding Horticultural Student, 1957, Outstanding Marksman (M-1 Rifle), FFA and AV Fair for 20 years. Advisor to FFA National Champion Horticulture Student, Antelope Valley Board of Trade for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Lela Bort. Survived by his wife Barbara, children, Lisa, Marcy and Ed, 7 grandchildren, siblings Evelyn and Norma. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Grace Chapel, 44648 15th St. West, Lancaster, CA 93534.
