ARNOLD, Dorothy Mildred Passed away peacefully Friday, October 1, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Rohrig) Brown. Born at home on August 14, 1915, in Long Beach, California, she was 95 years old. Having spent her entire life in California, Dorothy attended elementary school in Imperial Valley, Calif., and completed her education in Calexico, Calif. Growing up along the California and Mexico border, she told stories of swimming in the All-American Canal, and occasional trips to Mexico for dancing. She met her future husband LeRoy (Roy) Lawrence Arnold at a skating rink in the Imperial Valley city of El Centro, Calif. Dorothy and Roy were married on July 24, 1936, in Yuma, Arizona, and made their home in Artesia, Buena Park and Chino, Calif. Dorothy often told the story how during World War II, she would solder wire leads onto pumps that were destined to be installed in ships. She was proud of her work and said that her supervisor would have her demonstrate her abilities whenever there were plant visits. Roy and Dorothy had a son, Jack LeRoy born in Calexico, Calif. Although, Dorothy and Roys life together was cut short when Roy passed away in 1978, at their home in Chino, Calif., Dorothy in every way remained married to Roy throughout her 33 years without him. She was a gentle and kind woman, always ready to make conversation or a new friend. She enjoyed her pastime of crossword puzzles and bingo, trips with Mary, and up until 85 years of age, enjoyed a daily three mile walk. She was an accomplished seamstress, and had a passion for fine jewelry and strawberry waffles. She also thoroughly enjoyed her autumn visits to her grandchildren in Iowa. Dorothy was preceded in death by Roy, and her great-grandson, Wesley Loutsch. Dorothy is survived by her son, Jack and Etelvina, his wife of Palmdale, Calif., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., with Funeral Services to be held at 10 a.m., both on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary. Interment to follow at 1:30 p.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif. Email condolences to the family at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale Directors.
