DU BOIS, BARBARA M.
DU BOIS, Barbara M. Passed away on December 25, 2009, at age 88. She had suffered from Alzheimer's for the last twelve years. Barbara was born on August 11, 1921, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Edward P. Wright and Marie Silsbee Wright. She graduated from the University California, Berkeley. She lived in Lancaster from April of 1946 until November 2002, when she and her husband, Harry, moved to San Diego. Our wife and mother took great delight in helping others through her various volunteer efforts. She considered herself a professional volunteer. When she first settled in Lancaster, she became involved with the Allied Arts Association which was a fledging group for community artists. She also became involved with Girl Scouts in many capacities starting as a Brownie Leader and ultimately becoming the first president of Joshua Tree Council from Antelope Valley from 1965-72. Her time spent in helping little girls grow up to be good citizens was very important to her. She was active with the United Way and actively participated with the Wind and Sea Toastmistress Club. She was also involved with The Antelope Valley Indian Museum and truly loved being a docent and setting up the touch tables for the children during the open house weekends. In addition, she also enjoyed membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as tracing her family's roots and being involved in the Antelope Valley Genealogy Club with her husband for several years. They were also able to enjoy many travels throughout America, Europe, Fiji and New Zealand. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry, daughters Lynn Graupmann (Gary), Jan Consoli (Dave), Patty Johnson (Donn), granddaughters Lyndsi, Courtney (Adam), Carley, Whitney, grandsons Geoff (Mariana), Garrett, Matthew and great-granddaughter Addison. She was loved by all and her sweet and kind spirit will be deeply missed. As she had requested, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her family has gathered privately. Her ashes will be entombed at Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Oakland, Calif. Donations may be sent to The Elizabeth Hospice, 150 West Crest Street, Escondido, CA 92025 or The Alzheimer's Association.
